The £675,000 cyber crime attack on a UK banks online customers should act as a wake up call for anyone that still considers the internet a pretty benign environment, or considers themselves safe sitting behind a firewall and antivirus solution. Firstly, a little "how they did it" information to illustrate the loop holes.

So now you have set up your Facebook Page for your business or brand. How do you get more followers quickly, so you can look like the most popular kid in class? You can do this by importing contacts to your personal Facebook Profile page, then inviting these people to Like your Facebook page. You can import contacts from your email provider like Gmail or Hotmail, but now Facebook also allows you to upload a file of contacts which is a REALLY powerful way to build your contacts list as you can export customer lists from your web site, or direct email service like Vertical Response!

This week I went down to Marketing Week Live 2010 at Olympia. Organised by Marketing Week magazine this is the UK's largest marketing focused exhibition and conference event. I was interested in hearing some leading digital marketing speakers, and to get some external perspectives on the fast evolving digital marketing sector. So armed with my Press pass, I headed down to the big smoke.

As I am writing this, I feel that the shelf life of this post is going to be short. The pace at which things are changing on the internet marketing landscape is frantic. All the more reason to employ an expert in this field. [Shameless plug.] So, as of May 2010, this is a quick overview of using Facebook for business.

2010 is certainly turning into the year where "Web 2.0" or "social media" is coming of age for internet marketing purposes.

I'm really excited about going down to the Search Marketing Expo in London on the 17th and 18th May 2010. This is perhaps the foremost gathering of search marketing minds to happen in the UK in 2010.

We all know that for ecommerce, a good Google ranking is very important. However, Google now consists of various "flavours" of search - you have the main listings, news, images, video and shopping. The shopping results can be an excellent way to appear in Google listings, particularly in competitive markets. The shopping listings have their own ranking algorithm, but my common sense approach says that if you supply full, honest and influential text about your products in the Title and Description, you'll get views and clicks. Getting listed in the Shopping results used to be a difficult process, until Ian Wright's brilliant Joomla Google Base extension for Virtuemart.

It's the curse of the early adopter. You either find yourself surfing the new wave of technology, or getting beaten up by the dumping surf of disappointment.Windows Vista was very much the latter experience. A simple "upgrade" of a pretty up to date machine turned into two frustrating days of hardware upgrades, re-installs, and driver hunting. When I was offered a release candidate copy of Windows 7 two months ago, I was naturally reluctant. However, I have to say, it has been a brilliant experience and I'll explain why I like it and offer some guidance as to whether you should upgrade.

With full involvement from the start on this project we were able to ensure that a comprehensive strategy was applied, and we had full control over site development. This has led to some impressive results including No.1 ranking on Google for keyword "briefcase" and month on month growth in sales of 250%. |
